discovering CT: tisane

i am a tea freak! when i originally went to tisane it was with my friend gina. we had lunch and drank tea mixed with Bailey's and mint - amazing!. the cafe/tea bar/bar is a diamond in the rough - literally. it can be found in a "random" part of town, but the place is perfect. the food is great, the tea and drink are phenomenal and the atmosphere, along with the people, are great. the Hubbs and i went for brunch after church today and i took a few pics.
this is def one of my new fav spots.

south african lingo

While eating a delicious meal prepared by the Hubbs, I unexpectedly chocked on a piece of corn. After an abrupt cough I preceded to exclaim, "Ugh, I chocked on a milli!" To my surprise Albert began laughing hysterically and asked what a "milli" was. I quickly explained how in South Africa, our family and friends referred to corn as "milli" - don't ask me why, but we did.

This word encounter between the two of us started a whole discussion on the funny (in Albert's mind anyway) words that my family and I have brought over from South Africa.

The list is as follows:

Milli - Corn
Robot - Traffic Light
Tacky - Sneaker
Mince - Ground Beef
Loo - Toilet
Jersey - Sweater
Trolly - Shopping Cart
Ja - Yes/Yea
Pardon - Excuse Me
Chips - Fries
Braai - BBQ

If anyone else thinks of more I will amend the list ;)

mk & ash olsen

while surfing some blogs this weekend, i stumbled upon this amazing blog completely dedicated to mary-kate and ashley olsen (& their stylishness). there are a few blogs about them on the web, but non come close to the fashion genius of this site creator - she also does moonlight blogs for whowhatwear.com. check out olsens anonymous to see all these twins have to offer. i personally think their style genius lies in their attention to detail, while still maintaining their signature "just thrown together" look.

Celebrate! West Hartford 5k!

so excited to have run another 5k - my first in west hartford.
best part was being able to run it with new friends.
after the race with gina and winifred

getting my starbucks fix

with my #1 cheerleader

P.S while running this race, during the last mile, it was rather humbling when a dad pusshing a triplet stroller passed me! :/

a pick me up for a "blah" day...

Life is accompanied by obstacles and challenges - no-one is exempt, but we must not be fearful or intimidated or hide. God has counted you worthy of His love and therefore He will be with us in times of troubles. He is our comforter and the One Who will wipe the tears from our eyes and quench the anguish in our emotions. When tests and trials come, hold fast to Him and let Him bring you through.

elephant's trunk

we recently went to a flea market in new milford, CT. after telling albert it was only a few mins away (small white lie), i finally got him to go. it took us about an hour to arrive at the ELEPHANT'S TRUNK.

i was in "one person's trash, another person's treasure" heaven,
while albert was just... there.
upon entrance he went straight for the lemonade stand.

the market had an amazing amount of second hand items, old/beautiful furniture, and trinkets to keep me busy for days. However, this state of awe and wonder was not shared by albert... although he did find a rather large ostrich and ask me to take his picture. so strange!

old toy cars. why don't children play and collect these anymore?
what happened to innocence?

a beautiful antique train station bench... super long.
(please not the lemonade in hand.)

old window frames with glass.
they would make a great head board or just decor for the wall.

old glass jewelry.

loved these two book ends.
went back to purchase them, but the seller had already packed up. :(

this find was by albert.
i love old trunks and this one said "MEH" ...inside joke.
it could have been ours for $300 in cash. who goes to a flea market and brings $300 in cash?

and here's the ostrich!

out.

a glamorous stroll

oh to look so effortlessly chic everyday...

flower power

love, love, love how beautiful all the trees, shrubs and flowers look during spring in the northeast. every week another plant is boasting a new and vibrant flower. i am not used to all this pretty. in miami all we have are a few palm trees and some pot plants.
i found this shrub of pink and purple beauts just out front of our apartment :)
